About

Escape the madness and retreat yourselves away to Woodcutters Cottage. Nestled away on Swallowtail Hill farm near Rye in Sussex, there is a unique eco-friendly cabin awaiting your arrival. Plucked straight from some of our favourite fairy tale books, this enchanting cabin in the woods offers a rejuvenating getaway for the whole family.

Woodcutters Cottage is a bespoke cabin on wheels lovingly designed and created by owners Sarah & Christopher. Tucked away amongst old oak and chestnut trees, the fabulous location offers a tranquil setting to reconnect with one another. Relax & unwind in the ancient woodland or explore everything Swallowtail Hill has to offer. With the focus on conservation & biodiversity, there is plenty of wildlife to be observed during your stay, as well as meeting some of the local farm animal residents.

Inside

This charming escape is deceivingly spacious and cleverly thought out. Equipped with everything you’ll require for a unique family break. A handmade wooden kitchen with a mini fridge, microwave, sink and gas hob & grill allow for guests to cook up some simple tasty meals in no time, that’s if you’re not busy cooking al fresco. Enjoy your meals around the cosy seating area then spend the evenings playing some good old fashioned board games. There’s room for two adults and two children across a double bed and a seating area that converts into single beds. Woodcutters Cottage is suitable for an all year round stay due to the warming log burner.

Your private heated wash house is next door – a little cabin with a shower and compost loo. Make your stay extra special by ordering a breakfast or barbecue box or a pre-prepared meal from the in-house private chef.

Outside

This quirky cabin is well and truly immersed in an ancient woodland. The owners have carefully regenerated the land and allowed wildlife to make this place home. Some of which can be spotted right from your decking area. Weather permitting, practice your skills of outdoor cooking on the fire pit with a BonFire kit. Food tastes even better when cooked in the great outdoors!

There’s a wood fired hot tub bookable as an added extra if you want to take advantage of a soak under the stars.

Swallowtail Hill is entirely traffic free. You’ll leave your car in the carpark and Sarah & Christopher will be on hand to whisk you down on the farm buggy with your luggage. They will also show you how everything works.

Nearby

Idyllically located to explore everything East Sussex has to offer, Woodcutters Cottage is a great base to start from. Rye is the closest town, a delightful walled citadel with cobbled streets and an abundance of independent shops. For bird watching lovers, the popular Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is well worth a visit.

For the beach lovers, you won’t be disappointed. Take a stroll or family picnic to Camber Sands, the only sand dune system in East Sussex which stretches just over three miles. Winchelsea, Broomhill, Hastings and Dungeness are also just a short drive away from your cosy cabin.

If you fancy a break from cooking there’s plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. Well known for producing some of the finest meat, seafood, fruit and wine. East Sussex is definitely a place for foodies! Firstly, we’d recommend a visit to The Rye Waterworks Micropub, tasty real ales and scotch eggs are on offer here. Then, for a delicious Sunday lunch, head on over to the friendly village pub called The Rose & Crown. Scallops have long been fished near Rye Bay and they even have a Scallop Festival, a day out the whole family would enjoy. In October, Rye hosts a Wild Boar week, a great chance to sample some rarer meats.
