A collection of classy yet cosy retreats with picture perfect views across the gorgeous Cumbrian countryside.

Set upon the historic Hutton John Estate close to Penrith in the Lake District, is Highgate Cabins. Consisting of four bespoke ‘L’ shaped cabins crafted from locally sourced larch, they offer a wonderfully luxurious retreat. Brow Wood, Yew Tree, Bluebell and Herdwick all aspire to a boutique standard. Their beautifully styled interiors being second only to the fabulous location. With unhindered views of the gorgeous Lake District, you’ll feel as if you’re in a dream. And what is more, you’ll feel zero environmental guilt as the Estate is committed to adhering to a green ethos. As well as rewilding the estate itself, these cabins are ecofriendly. Solar panels provide renewable energy, while water comes from a local borehole, heated by LPG. And the cabins are heated to perfection with underfloor heating throughout. Ensuring your retreat is cosy and snug whatever the temperamental Cumbrian weather decides to do!

Inside

Each of the accommodations at Highgate Cabins feature stylish decor inspired by the natural landscape. Each is individually styled to a high standard with rich colours complementing a neutral palette. All four cabins are formed in an ‘L’ formation. The living space is open plan, a comfy sofa and Smart TV for cosy nights in. Although, those views through the floor to ceiling glazing may well prove a little too distracting! The well equipped kitchen space has everything you’ll need to prepare tasty feasts. A full size oven, induction hob, microwave, toaster and a kettle. Plus, accessories by Joseph Joseph and quality crockery from Denby. Enjoy the fruits of your labour at the dining set for two. And come bed time, freshen up in the lovely shower room, before heading to bed. And what a bedroom it is! With built in wardrobes and further storage in underbed drawers, with the exception of Brow Wood which provides a hanging rack and under bed storage. Dive beneath the sumptuous duvet of the super comfy super king bed.

Outside

Highgate Cabins are designed to be just as comfortable outside as in. Each has a private decked patio space with outdoor seating. Nearby you’ll find the shared Quadrangle space with further outdoor seating. It’s the perfect spot for al fresco dining and picnics. It’s also the starting point for exploring the estate and all it has to offer. And for the ultimate in romantic relaxation? If you stay in Brow Wood Cabin, you’ll be torn as what to test out first, sinking into the warm waters of your outdoor sunken bath or the glorious hot tub! Meanwhile, Yew Tree, Bluebell and Herdwick each have their own private wood fired hot tubs.

If you’re staying at Highgate Cabins to enjoy the great outdoors, you’re in luck! Not only is it on the coast to coast cycle route, but there are lots of other trails and walks nearby. For those who prefer to be water based, head to Ullswater, fifteen minutes away. Here you can learn to wild swim, paddle board and sail. Or just enjoy a trip on the Ullswater Steamer and enjoy views of the fells from a new perspective. For those who find Tarzan relatable, head to Go Ape in Whinlatter, half an hour away. If you enjoy pottering around towns, both Penrith and Keswick are fifteen minutes away, or less. If you fancy a tipple, the Lakes Distillery is half an hour away. Or for those who enjoy a spot of heritage, Dalemain Mansion and Gardens is just ten minutes away. With Lowther Castle and Hutton in the Forest both being around fifteen minutes away.
