Gludy House

Gludy House is managed by Lyn

Minimum stay for this property is 2 nights.

About

Gludy House stands elevated at the end of a private lane, two miles outside the town of Brecon. This dignified 16th Century farmhouse has spectacular views over the Brecon Beacons and Usk Valley. Renovated in 2018 to traditional taste, it has a spacious but homely feel. Gludy House sleeps twelve, along with plenty of communal space.

Gludy is surrounded by an expansive lawn & a field where ponies graze, edged by a babbling stream. The south facing terrace complete with dining for 12, has breathtaking views, steps lead to a deck with hot tub and lounge seating. Beyond the grounds is an endlessly breathtaking landscape with a wealth of things to do and places to explore. Perfect for a large group holiday home or for a luxury family break in Wales.

Inside

The elegant rooms will soon feel like your luxury home. The kitchen has a rangemaster double oven and facilities for cooking up splendid feasts. The large, comfortable sitting room is the place for a games evening, or a snooze by the woodburner after a walk and a hearty meal.

The reading room is a place to retreat, and stocked with literary gems. Twelve adults are accommodated over six double bedrooms, two of which can convert to singles. Four of the bedrooms are en-suite and the two attic bedrooms share a bathroom. There is also an extra shower room downstairs off the boot room, perfect for hosing down muddy feet. A travel cot and high chair are available upon request – your host can connect you with local babysitters. A Bose music system allows you to share your favourite sounds. While upstairs in the attic, beanbags, a TV and DVD player with a library of family classics invite children to retreat when they’re tired.

Outside

The south facing terrace will draw you out for long and lazy mealtimes and hearty conversations. Artfully sculpted over two million years by glaciers the mountains of the Brecon Beacons draw your gaze. Sunlight and clouds slide across them by day. As light fades, their staggering silhouettes become backlit by the deepest dark blue skies.

After a day of fresh air, gather in the hot tub bubbles under the famous starry skies.

Nearby

Gludy House makes fantastic Brecon Jazz Festival accommodation, or for a group of literature loving friends, during Hay Festival. Abergavenny Food Festival and Crickhowell Literature Festival are also nearby, along with The Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells. There’s always live music in Brecon at the creative Northhouse Studios or the Arts Centre The Muse. There are also an array of eateries, and the Michelin Restaurant Felin Fach Griffin further out of town.

Those fond of fly fishing can wander to nearby Gludy Lake, or head to the banks of the Usk for brown trout or the Wye for Grayling. Ellesmere Riding Centre offers pony trekking and riding – if you’d like to saddle up then 600 miles of bridleway await in the Beacons! Cradoc Golf Course is just down the road, Langorse Multi Activity Centre, Black Mountain Adventure and Inspire2Adventure all offer a range of exciting guided activities such as climbing, abseiling caving and watersports. Paddle a canoe calmly down the Wye or on the canal, or hurtle down the mountain rapids in a kayak. Wild swimming and waterfalls are perfect for cooling off while exploring on a hot day. Paragliding is a common sight locally – thrilling even for those of us who prefer to watch from the comfort of a picnic blanket!
